The agricultural revolution, industrialization, and the digital age have made our lives very easy and comfortable compared to our distant ancestors.

We no longer have to worry about where our next meal will come from. We can order any type of food, at any time of the day from our phone and it gets delivered to our doorsteps.

With food being so easy to get (at least for most of the middle class in developed and developing countries), we have stopped appreciating its value.

In restaurants and at home we see perfectly good food thrown away. Partly cause we don't appreciate the value of food and partly due to the lack of a mechanism to give away extra food.

I was researching on this topic and I found a company called ToGoodToGo who are tackling the second part of the problem.

By ToGoodToGo

ToGoodToGo has built a platform where grocery stores, restaurants & hotels can list their leftover food at a discounted prices, and you as a consumer can buy them.

It’s a classic win-win situation where both the business and the consumer benefit, all while reducing waste.

Their mobile app is similar to any food delivery app. On the landing page, based on the location, you will see the local businesses offering food items at a discounted prices.

All you have to do is reserve the item that you want, pay for it and then pick it up at the scheduled time.

Unfortunately, none of the businesses in my neighborhood are on the platform so I have not been able to use the service and won’t be able to share my personal experience, but I see real value in their offering.

I highly recommend you give this service a try if local businesses in your neighborhood are on the platform.

Thanks for reading.
