In today's world, where you are surrounded by multiple screens, you constantly get bombarded with notification alerts, messages, and emails.

With this, it's hard to stay focused and get things done without getting interrupted.

I too was struggling with getting distracted and not getting things done. To overcome this, I started implementing the Pomodoro Technique. It's a time management method where you work without any interruptions for a pre-defined time (30–40 mins) and then you take a short break and keep repeating it.

After implementing this technique, I saw significant improvement in my productivity. I used a phone timer to implement it and it was getting things done. However, I was looking for a better alternative to the stock phone timer.

I searched for the best productivity app on the app store and one name kept on coming in the search results. It was Forest.

By Forest

I downloaded the app and started using it.

When you open up the app you will land on the home page where you can set the timer.

Once you set the timer it will plant a seed and the tree will start to grow. While the timer is on and the tree is growing, the idea is to, not touch the phone while the timer is on and fully focus on the task at hand. If you pick your phone or close the app, the tree will die.

Once the timer finishes and you have not closed the app or touch your phone, the app will reward you with virtual currency and a virtual tree for your virtual forest in the app.

I find this simple idea of a timer combined with gamification really powerful.

The virtual currencies that you earn by building the forest have real-world use as well. You can use this currency to plant real live trees in different countries around the world. This way by doing more focused work you can help plant more trees around the world and help the environment.

I have found the combination of this app's simple timer, gamification & environmental aspect to be really useful and worth the $3 price tag. If you are looking for a way to get more focused work done, I highly recommend the Forest app.
